Advantages of File based System
What is a File Level Storage System?
A File Level storage system is the most common storage system that we find with our hard-drives, NAS systems, etc. In this type of storage, the storage disk is configured with a particular protocol (Like NFS, etc) and files are stored and accessed from it as such, in bulk.
Advantages of File Level Storage System:
1. File level storage system is simple to implement and simple to use.
2. It stores files and folders and is visible as such, to both the systems storing the files and the systems accessing it.
3. File level storage systems are generally inexpensive, when compared to block level storage systems.
4. File level storage systems are more popular with NAS based storage systems – Network Attached Storage.
They can be configured with common file level protocols like NTFS (Windows), NFS (Linux), etc.

5. File level storage systems are well suited for bulk file storage.
6.The file level storage device itself can generally handle operations like access control, integration with corporate directories, etc.
7. A typical file-based system or filesystem is an excellent way of categorizing and storing different types of information, a filesystem will store files according to text names that are readable by human beings...not just a computer processor.
8. In a file-based system, there will be options to alter and retrieve data at any time, through the use of computer commands.
9. Every individual file will have it own name and will be called a computer file.
10. Data files, or computer files, will then be placed on an organized system that begins at the top, with a master group of files, and tapers downward to single files. In this way, every file belongs somewhere, and each file can be accessed as part of a larger group.
11. This efficient system of data organization is created through the use of hard code programs that latch onto needed information stored in a specific region. Virtual "folders" filled with individual document files are used, data can also be saved in a single-file format (also called a flat-file system).
12. A file-based system is a great way to find documents on a daily basis, and a beneficial method of preserving a collection of important information from myriad sources, departments, and authors.
13. Adding insertions, deletions, and updates to files is simple and organized when a file-based system is employed.
14. Often, there will be little need for full-time IT staff to monitor and safeguard the database, updates and checks can be performed as needed.
15. However, a certain amount of security concerns may exist with these file-based systems, as they have a tendency to be more prone to being hacked or corrupted.
